From Iran To Europe: The Meaning Of Storytelling

We understand ourselves and others through the stories we tell and the manner in which we tell them. Those narratives reflect our sense of identity and provide the context in which our life unfold and our character evolves.

With that in mind I am delighted that Somayah McKian will be writing a series of articles for this blog, beginning with this topic. Somayeh is Persian born and Europe based, an award winning novelist, a Psychotherapist, and a Logotherapist & Existential Analyst in training at the Viktor Frankl Centre Northern Ireland.

She will be exploring how the "Will to Meaning" acts as the primary engine for storytelling. Just as Frankl suggests meaning is discovered rather than created, Somayeh will draw on her own writing to discuss how, as a Novelist she conceptualises and develops the meaning within her characters' lives.

By viewing the Author as an Existential Archaeologist, Somayeh will outline her approach to "discovering" the meaning that already exists in the world. In addition, regarding  Frankl’s "Tragic Triad" (pain, guilt, death), she will discuss how, as an author, she tries to document and transform the suffering of the human condition into something meaningful through writing novels.

I look forward to publishing Somayeh's fascinating insights shortly.
